What’s the difference between a boiled egg and a professor of science?

Over previous weeks our local schools have been competing in a science egghead competition.  Science can be great fun, but often the way it’s presented doesn’t do it justice. The egghead competition used the TV format to present science in a more exciting way.  In the final, three teams were not only competing against each other but also against a team of Professors.   It was a close competition with Arbroath High just beating Breadalbane Academy. The professors managed to hold their own, but it was touch and go at times.

Our local schools are very good in these sorts of competitions.  A few years back Monifieth High won the UK Maths Challenge and The High School of Dundee won the UK Top of the Bench chemistry competition.  Maybe you’ve taken part in competitions like these?  If you have it’s worth mentioning in your personal statement even if you didn’t win.  After all, it helps show that you are interested in your subject.

So what is the difference between a boiled egg and a professor of science? I was tempted to crack all sorts of eggscrutiating yolks and eggceedingly bad puns, but I can’t think of a funny answer to that one…. but I know which I’d rather have teaching me!
